Rain and Wind Lash Taiwan as Typhoon Haikui Makes Landfall

At least 78 people were injured as Typhoon Haikui impacted Taiwan on September 3-4, local media reported.

Haikui first made landfall in Taitung County at around 3:40 pm on Sunday, September 3, Taiwan News reported.

“It made landfall for a second time in Kaohsiung at 4 am on Monday before returning to the Taiwan Strait at 7 am off the coast of Tainan,” Taiwan News reported.

Of those injured, 23 were in Kaohsiung City, 20 in Taitung County, and 13 in Tainan City, Focus Taiwan reported citing officials.

The typhoon was the first to make landfall in Taiwan in more than four years, according to Taiwan News.
